5 Ways to Find Hope

When times are hard, hope can be hard to find. Hope is what keeps us going and optimistic about a brighter and happier future during dark times. After losing a loved one, it can be difficult to believe that you can cope with the immense amount of grief you’re experiencing. However, hope can help you through depression and difficult times. Here are 5 ways to find hope when you feel lost.

In Your Religion

If religion is an important part of your life, then a place of worship can help restore your hope. Many religious teachings focus on having faith and hope.  The inspirational messages and songs can be uplifting and encouraging. Fellow worshippers may also be willing to lend a helping hand by providing emotional support.

In Change

Sometimes the best way to find hope is to make a change in your life. We can feel much more hopeful about our future if we take the tiniest step in the right direction. For example, if talking about your loved one who has passed is difficult in the beginning, you could find hope in the first time you’re able to share about your loss.

In Love

It could be something as simple as encouraging words from a friend or a family member stopping by with your favorite meal. When others show that they care about us, it can help us begin to see the light at the end of the tunnel. You can also find hope in love by loving others. Giving to others can be just as rewarding as receiving love.

In Action

If you find that coping with your loss is difficult for you, it may be time for you to take action. This could be contacting a support group, therapist, or actively seeking out friends and family that you can trust to support you. Other actions you could take include finding new ways to express your grief or starting your own support group.

In Knowledge

Educate yourself on the stages of grief and read about how others have dealt with their grief. Knowing and understanding the emotions and behavior related to grief can help you recognize how the death is affecting you. It can also help you feel less alone when you realize that many people experience the same feelings that you are.
