healthy habits of perfect morning

Are you a morning person? Chances are that you’re not—the majority of people take a little while before they get going in the a.m. Unfortunately, it’s a simple fact of life that if you’re an adult with responsibilities, you have to find a way to drag yourself out of bed in the morning. If you’re finding this daily task harder and harder to do, maybe you just need to change your morning routine. Here are a few tips that will help you take a bit of dread out of the sound of the alarm clock in the morning.

  1. Get enough sleep. Of course this is obvious, but it has to be said. If you’re having trouble falling asleep, ask your doctor about an over-the-counter medication that might help. If you find yourself waking up in the middle of the night and can’t fall back asleep, try getting out of bed and reading in a quiet room for 20 minutes or so.
  2. Prepare as much as you can the night before. Doing little tasks such as making your lunch or setting your clothes out leaves you more time to focus on other tasks in the morning. A coffee maker with an auto-brew timer is an inexpensive upgrade that pays off in convenience.
  3. Wake up earlier. It’s no fun to be rushing out the door in the morning to avoid being late. But waking up just 30 minutes earlier not only gives you time to get ready at a more leisurely pace, it also gives you extra time to do something you enjoy, like reading the news or just enjoying your breakfast during the sunrise.
  4. Find an alarm clock that you like. There’s a reason you can’t stand that obnoxious buzzing on your alarm clock in the morning, and only part of it has to do with the time of day that it’s going off. Set a radio alarm to a station with music that you like. Or, take a look at the hundreds of alarm apps available for your phone. You’re sure to find one that wakes you with a gentler, more pleasant tone.

  1. Exercise. Are you still telling yourself that you just don’t have time to exercise? You’ve forgotten that your alarm clock can be adjusted so that you wake up earlier. The morning is a great time to exercise because it gets your blood pumping and gets you ready for the day. You’ll be amazed at how awake you are after just 20 or 30 minutes of vigorous exercise.
  2. Organize. Starting the day off flustered because you can’t find your razor or makeup brush isn’t going to help anything. Make a point to keep everything you need in the morning organized. Unclutter your bathroom sink or counter and always make sure everything goes back to its designated spot. Keep your keys/wallet/purse in the same spot so that you’re never searching for them when you’re ready to head out the door.
